Expressway Okučani (Croatia) – B&H border / phase 2, section: interchange “Novi Varoš” – bridge on Sava: Intensive works on structures and on the route

After fighting with extremely unfavorable weather conditions, works on the construction of the expressway of the border of the Republic of Hungary – Virovitica – Okučani – the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina, section: Okučani – the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2nd phase: the route of the expressway from km 4+620.00 to km 8+694.17, continue rapidly.

 Currently, intensive works are underway on the construction of the “Rukavac Strug” bridge with a total length of L=169.40 meters. Earlier, the entire substructure of the bridge was constructed, while work is underway on incremental launching of the steel span construction of the right (western) building. The assembly of span construction elements is carried out by the company “Delta MM Steelix” from Sisak (Croatia). In the following period, the incremental launching of the steel span construction of the left (eastern) building will be carried out, as well as the construction of the reinforced concrete pavement slab of the bridge, which is why the Peri VCC grid formwork has been delivered and installed to the construction site.

On the “Kanal nova Sava” bridge, works are underway on the construction of the substructure of the bridge. Out of a total of sixteen pillars, seven of them were built in their entirety, while abutment U9 was built up to the height of the chest wall.
So far, it was built:

  • 3 reinforced concrete pile head plates;
  • 12 reinforced concrete columns, diameter d=2 m;
  • 7 reinforced concrete column header beams.

At the same time, steel span girders for the left (eastern) side of the “Kanal nova Sava” bridge from the company “Metaling” from Jajce (Bosnia and Herzegovina) are being delivered to the construction site. The material for the production of 3,800 tons of steel construction has been fully ordered, and so far we have delivered 61% of the required steel to the Jajce production site. In the following period, the construction of the substructure of the bridge will be completed, the total length of which is L=523.40 m.

On the “Novi Varoš” overpass, with a total length of L=70.70 m, all reinforced concrete piles with head plates have been constructed, while the columns and abutments are in the construction phase. 

The largest volume of work is the construction of the embankment of the route from mixed material. So far, 450,913.24 m3 of material, which comes from the “Trnava” quarry (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and the “Kamen Psunj” quarry (Republic of Croatia), has been installed on the L=4.07 km long route. It is necessary to install another 232,296.76 m3 of mixed material in the embankment of the route. For greater efficiency and faster installation, the material from the “Trnava” quarry is delivered to the construction site via the new interstate bridge on the River Sava near Gradiška.

About 240 workers are employed at the construction site, whose structure and number varies depending on the type of work. Most of them come from Integral inženjering, which includes about 10% of employees from surrounding area in Croatia.
