Final works on the construction of the final concrete secondary lining of the HE Dabar headrace tunnel

Aug 24, 2026

Work is currently underway on the tunnel section toward the intake structure, where an artificial tunnel is being built in open excavation using the "cut-and-cover" method. This method will be used to construct 260.00 meters of the headrace tunnel out of its total length of L=12,125.00 m, a decision driven by the specific geology, the shallow soil cover above the tunnel tube, and the associated increased risks to workers.

In the intake structure, installation of the gates and associated mechanical equipment is nearing completion.

In addition, work on the remaining 640 m of the final secondary concrete lining is proceeding intensively in the excavated section of the tunnel, bringing this strategically very significant project into its final phase. These works are progressing on schedule, with optimal deployment of teams and machinery on site.

Given favorable weather conditions and continuation of the current pace of works, we expect the final secondary lining of the headrace tunnel to be completed during the course of this year.

Works remaining until project completion:

  • construction of 640 m of final (secondary) concrete lining;
  • construction of 260 m of tunnel in open excavation using the "cut-and-cover" method;
  • construction of the pavement structure for the access road to the intake structure;
  • execution of final and remediation works
